Snowy Owl |
WINTER IN NEW ENGLAND, December 30, 2010 - January 3, 2011 This 5 day trip will visit all the winter hot spots in Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and Provincetown, Plum Island, and Cape Ann. We will bird nearby states depending on reports. Target birds will include Dovekie, King Eider, Barrow's Goldeneye, Snowy Owl, Purple Sandpiper, Harlequin Duck, Thick-billed Murre, Black Guillemot, Eurasian Wigeon, Lapland Longspur, Thayer's Gull, Black-headed Gull, Iceland Gull, Glaucous Gull, Snow Bunting, "Ipswich" Savannah Sparrow and many others. There will be lots of reports due to the Christmas Bird Count and the New Year. There is often a winter rarity around (A Slaty-backed Gull was around in 2009 and two Ivory gulls visited us in 2010!). As an added bonus, we have the option of attending Boston's famous First Night New Year's Eve celebration!
